In one of the Political Innovation Camp sessions at Reboot Britain on 6th July 2009 we will be exploring the possibility of an ‘Interactive Charter’ – an open invitation to local authorities, national government departments and other organisations to take practical steps to embrace the use of social media and unlock the opportunities for improved efficiency, engagement, collaboration and accountability.
Based on current thinking (though it could all change by the end of the 6th!) the Interactive Charter will be made of four parts:
- THE CHARTER – a statement of change;
- THE CASE FOR CHANGE – setting out the foundations on which change should be built;
- DRIVERS – a list of positive forces to work with in creating social media aware organisations;
- BARRIERS – a list of barriers to be overcome;
The Drivers and Barriers are already being explored on the Social Strategy wiki here, building on the 50 Hurdles of Open Government blog post which sparked off this whole project.
The Charter and Case for Change will be drafted collaboratively through Mixed Ink from the 6th until the end of July.
When complete, the Charter will be presented to organisations and actors across the public sector.
Get Involved
This is an open, collaborative project. We’d love you to get involved. Keep an eye on the blog here for more details of how you can join in the process of creating and putting the Chater into practice soon.
